Maruti Suzuki dispatched 1,47,912 units to its dealers in September 2020. It was a 34% growth over September 2019 and 31% growth over August 2020!ModelYear-on-Year ComparoMonth-on-Month ComparoSep’20Sep’19Growth (%)Sep’20Aug’20Growth (%)Swift226431293475%226431486952%Baleno194331142070%194331074281%Alto182461507921%182461439727%Wagon R175811175750%175811377028%Dzire1398815662-11%13988136293%Eeco11220994913%11220911523%Ertiga9982628459%998293027%Vitara Brezza915310362-12%9153690333%S-Presso9000500680%9000531269%CELERIO7250414075%7250568428%IGNIS33181266162%331832622%S-Cross20981040102%20982527-17%XL620873840-46%2087184613%Ciaz15341715-11%1534122325%Gypsy379––379452-16%TOTAL1,47,9121,10,45434%1,47,9121,13,03331%

Maruti’s Swift superseded Alto again to become the best selling car for both OEM and the Nation for September 2020. It is the second month in succession that Swift overtook Alto!
-
Baleno too outsold Alto and jumped to the second spot. It recorded a mammoth 70% YoY growth. Also note that rebadged Toyota Glanza sold 2,572 units – the combined Baleno+Glanza sales shall be 22,005 units!
-
Alto slipped to the third position and was 1,187 units short of the second best selling Baleno in Sep’20. It had a solid 21% YoY jump though.
-
Wagon-R was the fourth best selling car in Maruti’s portfolio for Sep 2020. There is a spike seen in the sales of entry level cars and Swift/Alto/Wagon-R sales are a testimony for it.
-
Dzire was one of the few Maruti models to post a degrowth in Sep 2020 – drop is obviously due discontinuation of diesel variant. Maruti has aggressively launched a slew of campaigns under ‘Calculate Kiya Kya’ to highlight how diesel cars can prove to be costly in longer run. Believe Maruti has no other option now!
-
Vitara’s ranking has fell drastically over time. Again discontinuation of diesel a big factor here?
-
Ciaz seems to be outdated in front of the New City & Verna. Its volumes have dropped significantly (-11% YoY) and diesel model discontinuation has added to its woes.
-
Do note that majority of the erstwhile Maruti Diesel models have seen a degrowth in Sep’20 – Dzire (-11%), Brezza (-12%), Ciaz (-11%).
