In this January 2025 Tata car sales analysis, we’ll look at the car sales of Tata for the previous month. We’ll also compare the YoY and MoM change to find out which Tata cars’ sales improved and which ones declined. To support the trends, we’ll also provide our opinions where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend of all Tata cars.
Tata’s Free EV Charging Offer
MG promised a lot more than they could afford when they launched the Windsor with 1-year free charging offer. Tata later followed up with a 6-month free charging offer limited to 1000 units.
Early in Feb 2025, MG accountants must have done the math only to realise they can’t afford to give away unlimited free charging and withdrew the offer limiting it to 1000 units — even for the early adopters of the Windsor.
This would severely hurt the brand’s trustworthiness as they overpromised and underdelivered. Meanwhile, Tata never claimed to offer such freebies and when they did promise free charging, they did the math before yelling out loud about free charging. The 6-month/1,000 units of free charging comes across as a cheap imitation of MG’s unlimited free charging but when MG withdrew this offer, they made Tata appear more generous and more trustworthy than MG Motor.
Tata are once again offering discounts on their EV range, especially with the Nexon EV and the Curvv EV. Both of these cars are facing stiff competition (Hyundai Creta Electric) and it’s only going to get worse with the launch of Maruti E Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. Along with the discounts, they are also offering 6-month or 1000 units of free charging at Tata Power charging stations. So, it’s nice to see Tata twisting MG’s arm for a change.
2024 belonged to MG Motors in terms of electric cars. Given the growing competition in the EV space, the 2025 calendar year may not belong to Tata Motors but it certainly won’t belong to MG.
