Hyundai’s announcement of the IONIQ 3, unveiled on April 20, 2026.

Hyundai Motor Company has expanded its dedicated EV family with the all-new Hyundai IONIQ 3, a compact electric hatchback designed to bring advanced EV technology into a more accessible, practical and urban-friendly format. Positioned below the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6, the IONIQ 3 introduces a new “Aero Hatch” body style, blending aerodynamic efficiency, interior versatility and intuitive technology into what Hyundai sees as a next-generation compact EV for Europe.

What it is: A fully electric compact hatchback designed for everyday European needs, combining bold design, simple technology, and a spacious interior

New “Aero Hatch” body style: The IONIQ 3 introduces a new typology with a silhouette optimized for both aerodynamic efficiency and generous interior space. Its low front-end transitions into a roofline that runs straight over both rows of occupants before sweeping down to merge with the rear spoiler — maximizing headroom and rear passenger comfort.

Design: The car debuts Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language in the compact EV segment, with surfaces reduced to deliberate volumes inspired by the raw tension of steel production. Signature pixel lighting includes four central dots referencing the letter “H” in Morse code.

Range & Battery:

  • Two battery options: 42.2 kWh (Standard Range, ~344 km WLTP) and 61 kWh (Long Range, targeting a class-leading ~496 km WLTP).

  • DC fast charging from 10–80% in approximately 29–30 minutes, plus AC charging up to 22 kW.

Performance: Front-wheel drive with 107.8 kW (147 PS), 250 Nm of torque, a top speed of 170 km/h, and a drag coefficient of 0.263.

Interior: A flat-floor “Furnished Space” layout offers genuine five-seat comfort with generous legroom and headroom. Luggage capacity is 441 litres (322 L trunk + 119 L Megabox), expected to set a segment benchmark.

Tech & Infotainment: The IONIQ 3 is the first European Hyundai to feature the Pleos Connect system based on Android Automotive OS, with a 12.9- or 14.6-inch display. It also includes Hyundai Digital Key 2, Plug & Charge, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.

Safety: Equipped with Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), Blind-Spot View Monitor, Surround View Monitor, and seven standard airbags.

Where it’s made: Designed in Europe and produced at Hyundai Motor Türkiye’s İzmit plant.

The IONIQ 3 may be Hyundai’s most important mass-market EV since the IONIQ 5. By combining Aero Hatch design, nearly 500 km range, fast charging, generous interior packaging and next-generation software, Hyundai is targeting a sweet spot between affordability and advanced technology.

It’s shaping up to be a strong contender in the European compact EV segment, particularly with its class-leading projected range and a notably large boot for its size.
