In this January 2025 Maruti Suzuki cars sales analysis article, we’ll look at the car sales of Arena and Nexa. We’ll also compare the YoY and MoM change to find out which Maruti cars sales improved and which ones declined. To support the trends, we’ll also provide our opinions where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend of all Maruti cars.
Diving Head-first Into EVs With E Vitara
While loudly claiming to stay away from EVs and working on other fuel options such as flex fuel and bio fuel, Maruti Suzuki were quietly working on EVs. The eVitara is the result of several years of R&D into EVs and it will challenge the might of Chinese carmakers in the sub-Rs. 30.0 lakh EV space — wait for it — with Chinese batteries.
They are sourcing batteries from BYD to go up against cars like:
-
Hyundai Creta Electric
-
Mahindra BE 6
-
Tata Curvv EV
-
BYD Atto 3
-
MG ZS EV
-
MG Windsor
With the mass market brands like Hyundai and Maruti entering the EV space, it’s going to get tough for MG and Tata to retain their market share. This is evident as Tata are starting to offer discounts on the Curvv EV even though it went on sale only a few months ago with a reasonable asking price. MG too are feeling the heat as they are offering substantial discounts on the ZS EV. For the first time, the ZS EV base trim is available with almost Rs. 2.50 lakh discounts, effectively bringing its starting price down to Rs. 16.50 lakh.
Do note that the ZS EV’s starting price was once close to Rs. 23.0 lakh and it’s now available from around Rs. 16.50 lakh. This kind of significant price corrections also affect the resale price. While Maruti Suzuki haven’t been experts in pricing and positioning of their products (e.g. Jimny), they get it right most of the time. This helps Maruti Suzuki cars maintain a good resale value.
We expect Maruti to price the eVitara well right from the start so that the buyers don’t have to worry about severe price correction of their car the way MG ZS owners are experiencing. According to our estimates, the Maruti eVitara could cost between Rs. 18.0 and Rs. 22.0 lakh (ex-showroom). It should go on sale very soon as some dealers have started accepting unofficial bookings for the car.

Maruti Suzuki seasonally use the opportunity of low demand in December to take kind of a break. During this time, they give their factory employees a break and use it to give their machinery and tools a service so they continue to function flawlessly for several more months. So, a significant drop in Dec 2024 numbers followed by a substantial jump in Jan 2025 figures is pretty standard affair for Maruti Suzuki.
Hence, the Jan 2025 figures and YoY change appear in line with only a minor deviation from Jan 2024 production. That’s just enough to accommodate and fine tune the demand and organization goals.
