Maruti had 8 models in the Top 25. On average; the volumes were 3,727 units/car.

Hyundai had 6 models in the Top 25 and averaged 3,768 units per model and was higher than that of Maruti.

Tata with 3 models in the list averaged 2,963 units per model.

Kia had 2 offerings in the Top 25 and averaged 5,452 per model (which was the highest in Industry).

The Top 5 Selling cars 3 Non-Maruti cars (Creta, Sonet, Nexon) which is an aberration in the Indian PV industry and was primarily due to the 16-day manufacturing lockdown observed by Maruti Suzuki.

Hyundai Creta has been India’s No.1 Selling SUV for quite a while and it emerged as India’s highest-selling passenger car in May 2021. The Hyundai SUV outsold the likes of Swift, Alto, and Baleno to achieve this feat.

The Top 5 cars had 3 SUVs in total – Apart from Creta, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon made an entry into the Top 5 list! Kia Sonet also became the best-selling Sub-4m Compact SUV for May 2021 and was closely followed by Tata’s Nexon. Both Sonet and Nexon overtook the erstwhile segment leaders (Brezza and Venue).

Maruti’s Dzire was the only sedan in the Top 5 with shipments of 5,819 units in May 2021. The model had a tough ride in FY2021 due to the discontinuation of diesel trims; however, it is fighting hard to retain its volumes.

Venue and i10 Nios were the other Hyundai models in the Top 10. i20 ranked 11th in the overall list.

Maruti Baleno ranked seventh with dispatches of 4,803 units.

Maruti’s usual high-selling model WagonR was pushed off to seventeenth rank as only 2,086 units were shipped in May 2021.
