Top 25 Selling Cars in India for December 2021

The Top 25 Selling Cars constituted over 78% of the cars sold in December 2021. It had 11 models from Maruti, 4 from Tata, 3 from Hyundai and Mahindra, 2 from Honda, and 1 from Toyota & Kia each. In terms of volumes, Maruti Suzuki models contributed to just over 58 percent volumes in the Top 25!


8 out of Top 10 cars came from Maruti Suzuki’s stable. Maruti’s Wagon R retained the best-selling car title for December 2021. Tata and Hyundai have 1 model each in the Top 10 selling cars of December 2021.

OEMwise Count in the Top 25 selling cars –

  • Maruti had 11 models in the Top 25. On average; the volumes were 10,644 units per car.

  • Tata had 4 models in the Top 25 (higher than Hyundai!) and averaged 7,398 units per model.

  • Hyundai with 3 models in the list averaged 8,040 units per model.

  • With 3 models in the top 25, Mahindra’s overall volumes is now consistently higher than that of Kia and averaged at 4,518 units/model.

  • Utility Vehicles dominated with 12 models (8 SUVs & 4 MUVs) in the Top 25 and combined volumes of over 85k units.

  • Hatchbacks had 9 models in the Top 25 and the sales in the segment is gradually slowing down.

  • Sedans had 3 models in the Top 25 and the best-selling sedan was Maruti Dzire and was followed by Honda City & Amaze.

  • Maruti Wagon R was the best-selling car for December 2021. It was followed by the siblings Swift and Baleno in the Top 5 selling cars.

  • Tata’s Nexon became the Best Selling SUV for December 2021 – It overtook the likes of Creta, Brezza, etc to take the top slot. Nexon also emerged as the only Non-Maruti model in the Top 5!

  • Ertiga / XL6 duo have been consistently raking in impressive volumes for Maruti Suzuki. Ertiga alone ranked 5th in Dec’21 and was the best-selling MUV for last month. Kia is eyeing the segment with Carens now.

  • Hyundai had only 1 model in the Top 10 – Venue. Hyundai Venue was the highest-selling model for the OEM and the dispatches were higher than the sibling Creta.
