India’s compact SUV segment continued its strong momentum in April 2026, posting total sales of 1,19,144 units, a healthy 15.8% YoY growth compared to April 2025. The segment remains one of the most competitive and volume-driven categories in the Indian passenger vehicle market, with strong performances from Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Kia.
The biggest highlight of the month was the dominance of the Tata Punch, which emerged as the highest-selling sub-4m SUV in the country. Meanwhile, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Tata Nexon continued their strong run with robust double-digit growth.

Tata Punch clocked impressive sales of 19,107 units in April 2026, registering a massive 52.9% YoY growth. With a segment share of 16%, the Punch emerged as the undisputed leader in the sub-4m SUV space.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx secured the second position with 18,829 units, growing by 31.3% YoY. The Fronx now commands a strong 15.8% market share in the segment.

Tata Nexon finished third with 18,126 units, posting a solid 17.3% YoY growth. The Nexon held a 15.2% segment share during the month.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza recorded sales of 14,124 units, witnessing a 16.8% YoY decline. Despite the drop, it remained among the top-selling SUVs with an 11.9% segment share.

Hyundai and Kia both delivered strong performances in April 2026. The Hyundai Venue registered 12,420 units, growing by an impressive 56.2% YoY, while the Kia Sonet sold 10,537 units, up 30.6% YoY.

The Hyundai Exter registered dispatches of 8,096 units, recording a strong 49.5% YoY growth.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO sold 7,517 units in April 2026. While volumes remained healthy, sales were largely flat YoY with a marginal 0.7% decline.

Skoda Kylaq witnessed one of the sharpest declines in the segment, falling 23.8% YoY to 4,089 units.
