The Undisputed Leader: Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga remains the titan of the segment. Accounting for nearly 41.5% of all MUVs sold in India, the Ertiga saw sales of 1,98,876 units. While its YoY growth of 4.1% is slightly below the segment average, its sheer volume (nearly double its closest competitor) solidifies its position as the preferred choice for Indian families and fleet operators alike.
The Power Players: Toyota and Kia
Toyota maintains a strong secondary position through its “Innova” powerhouse (Hycross + Crysta). The duo moved 1,12,188 units, securing a 23.4% market share with a steady 4.6% growth. The most aggressive growth among the top three, however, came from Kia. Combining the Carens and the Clavis, Kia recorded 76,837 units, representing a significant 18.9% YoY jump. This surge has helped Kia capture 16% of the total segment.
The FY2026 data highlights a diversifying market. While the “Ertiga-Innova” duopoly still dictates the pace, the double-digit growth seen in Kia’s portfolio and the Renault Triber suggests that buyers are looking for varied experiences—ranging from tech-heavy cabins to ultra-budget utility.
As the segment grows to nearly half a million units annually, the competition is no longer just about utility; it’s about finding the right balance between premium features and the traditional “value-for-money” Indian ethos.
